Why Tae Kwon Do is the perfect weight control program By Master Hartoonian
Diets don’t work! If you want to loose weight and get in shape then you have to eat right and EXERCISE. You simply can not cheat the first law of thermodynamics:
Energy can be neither created nor destroyed. If you don’t burn what you eat, it will be stored in your body in form of FAT!!
I'm told that to lose one pound of fat it's necessary either to reduce my food intake by 3500 calories or burn fat. I just love chocolate. So not eating a Hershey’s bar (210 calories) is totaly out of question. I’d rather have my cake and eat too. How do I do it? Simple! I burn fat and carbs by doing Tae kwon Do, the perfect system for weight control and fitness. I know it works because it has worked for me and many of my students for the last 23 years. And here is why.
When you move your body it burns the stored fat and carbohydrates for energy. Burning of this energy generates heat. The generated heat is measured in calories. Each gram of fat stored in the body has the ability to generate 9 calories of heat. It takes 454 grams to equal one pound. Therefore, if you want to loose 10 pounds of fat you need to reduce your calorie intake by 35,000 or burn an equal amount by moving.
Let’s say you decide to cut back on your calorie intake by not drinking one can of soft drink a day. A 12 oz can of soft drink has 150 calories so it will take you 233 days to get rid of the 35,000 calories. Patience is a virtue!
How about trying to exercise? You should know that there are two main ways to exercise, aerobic and anaerobic; Aerobic means "with oxygen" and anaerobic means "without oxygen". Anaerobic exercises like weight lifting burn calories primarily from burning fat. On the other hand, aerobic exercises like jogging require a great deal of oxygen which is used to burn carbohydrates. In summary, anaerobic exercises burn fat and aerobic exercises burn carbs.
I believe Tae Kwon Do as I teach it in our school (The Panthers Den) is the ideal form of exercise. We combine anaerobic and aerobic movements. Anaerobic exercises like pushups, forms, and stretching help burn fat. Aerobic movements like dynamic kicking drills, sparring, and punching provide great deal of oxygen to the body and burn carbs. By combining these two forms of exercises we stay mentally and physically fit. During a one hour Tae Kwon Do practice you can expect to burn anywhere from 600 to 800 calories. After which you can treat yourself to that cheese cake (About 700 calories in a slice of Starbucks cheesecake). But don’t forget the first law of thermodynamics and stay motivated, workout frequently, and eat right. Make it a “Way of Life”.
